Artifiseer – “Enigma EP” album review for IPaintMyMind.org

Artifiseer, otherwise known as Ian Livingstone, has been weaving the magic of electronic music into his craft since his 2012 with the debut tracks Blown Fuse/ Rumours Of A Murder. While the artist released Enigma EP earlier in June, his attention is already focused on future endeavors. “Well, back at work again on the full-length album. Changed ideas a bit, but I really like how it’s shaping up,” he recently posted to Facebook.

After the darkness of “-♦- ΔEmotions -♦- (Intro)”, the aptly titled “After Dark” transports the listener to the sort of waking dreams of futuristic spaceship dance-floors that defy explanation. Childish pianos mesh with elements reminiscent of the best casino-level Sonic the Hedgehog theme. A stuttered, lazy beat reflects the computerized, re-sampled and glitched-out vocals. When the drums kick in the second time around, we were more than happy to blast this record at full volume over a morning coffee/smoke. The rest of the album ebbs between gentle soundscapes and aggressive, syncopated kick-snare patterns.
