Samiyam – Wish You Were Here

It’s all there: syncopated sixteenth notes, the blending of awkward time signatures, low end bass-lines meandering, all set to that bewildered haze that made Flying Lotus a household name. He IS a household name, right? It will always depend on who you ask but Samiyam’s Wish You Were Here shines on its own. It beats, it’s weird, and the flow as well as the production are on point.

Lunch Meat, Dreams (Green Feelings), Waves, This L, Italy and Stuff all deliver that sort of rainy, slow, stumbling feel that comes from an implied jazz swing. It was hard to pick a favorite, although Stuff definitely stood out on first listen. The album is also full of all sorts of tangential treasures, such as the very end of Hummus.
