Exploring the aesthetic impulses that lead her to draw one direction and not another, Van Wey incorporates clear metaphoric references to the gardening lifestyle she maintains in San Francisco’s Mission District. Having spent four months backpacking across California’s vast stretches of land, Van Wey found the day-to-day life of office work repulsive to her innate humanity. Taking it upon herself to branch out and fully embrace the title of artist, she has come to find that freelance work lends itself to her pursuit of happiness and expression through artwork that takes our breaths away.
